kites
Together we learned about kite making in Pakistan and Afghanistan. We tried making our own but they didn't fly well.
But then the discussion moved towards the value of failure, that it can lead to new understanding and opportunities.
And then a fellow student showed us how to make kites that flew, just like in the book The Kite Runner. They were made with throw-away materials: rubbish bags, tape and sticks.
At the end of the project, the students talked about how special the kite making had become: they'd worked in teams and made friends with students they'd never spoken to before.
And they felt proud that a student had become the teacher.
